How To Draw A Flower Garden

I wanted to share my procedure of creating a garden design sketch, which is part of the initial schematic design stage. I start by drawing over a photo of the site. I choose the nigh descriptive photo, one that provides the most informative, unobstructed view of the site. In this example, information technology was a photograph taken from an upper level of the 1000, so the viewers has a slightly downward perspective, which can be very helpful in understanding the space. I alter the brightness and contrast so that I tin more than easily depict over it.

The next step is to figure out the perspective lines, this case happens to exist piece of cake and provides us with some obvious clues. The ruby-red lines on the photo below show the edges of the backyard which is close to rectangular. That means we tin can use the parallel side lines to help u.s. detect the vanishing point and horizon line. So I trace the edges of the backyard until they meet (cherry-red lines). Where they meet is chosen the vanishing betoken. That point helps us determine the horizon line, which always runs through the vanishing signal horizontally (the blue line). The horizon line is helpful in understanding where other perspective lines might cease, when you lot take two or three indicate perspective. Right now we are just dealing with ane-point perspective. From this point, I draw in the hardscape and planting, starting from foreground to background. This is where inventiveness comes into play and a familiarity with how plants grow is helpful. Next, I colour in the black & white cartoon (I started to above, and and then realized I should browse information technology!). Since I'm thinking in terms of real plants I volition use, I try to be somewhat realistic in my color choices, merely this is also a wonderful way to experiment with dissimilar colors to run across how information technology affects the viewer's perception of depth and mood.

Sometimes I accept the cartoon to the next level of imagination. For instance, I'm continually adding drawings to my coloring volume (that I created and offer on this blog) and I felt this design would lend itself well, with just a few tweaks. And so I draw information technology again with some different details, I hide/ remove the business firm, so that information technology feels more similar a undercover garden. I add in a few taller trees that don't actually exist on the site. I make information technology very coloring friendly by ensuring there is a articulate agreement of where one constitute starts and stops. The cartoon is still fairly loose and open to interpretation, which is merely office of my way.
